Pregnant woman gets $250,000 bail on narco charge

first_imgA pregnant woman and a male friend was slapped with cannabis possession for the purpose of trafficking charge and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Friday.Sharda Mohammed, 47, of Lot 31 B Field, Sophia, Georgetown, and Nigel Luke, of Lot 1985 Festival City, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, both denied the charge after it was read by Magistrate Judy Latchman.It is alleged that on June 15, at Nutmeg Street, North Ruimveldt, Georgetown, they had 2.7kg of cannabis in their possession for trafficking.In a bail application, attorney Melvin Duke told Court that on the day of the incident Mohammed took lunch for Luke with whom she is ‘friendly’ with at his work place as she normally does on a daily basis. He said Luke works as a security guard/caretaker at a car rental business and café.According to the lawyer Police arrived at the location and conducted a search when the seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis were found in the kitchen area of the café.He noted that Police dusted for fingerprints but none matching his clients were found on the items. He requested reasonable bail on these grounds.The lawyer’s submissions were objected to by Police Prosecutor Kerry Boswick who told the Court that on the day in question Police went to the home of Luke, and they were greeted by both defendants. He noted that after conducting a search of the premises Police found the illicit drug and showed it to Luke who admitted to being the owner.The pregnant woman, who is also a mother of eight children, was granted 0,000 bail while Luke was remanded to prison.The case will continue on July 13.last_img
