MFA Hosts First Annual Career Fair

Student-athletes of the Monrovia Football Academy (MFA) yesterday participated in their first career fair hosted at the Muslim Congress High School on Mechlin Street.The “MFA Career Fair,” like any other career fairs, is an event in which employers, recruiters, and school administrations give information to potential employees.At yesterday’s event, students were able to network with representatives from a wide range of companies and organizations, to discover career opportunities that they can pursue in the future.Companies and organizations at the “MFA Career Fair” presented papers on their respective organizations and companies as well as how to become employable. It also included presentations on innovation skills, to boost students’ careers and support their entrepreneurship.Representatives from several other organizations and companies attended the occasion. They came from Orange Liberia, Activa Insurance Company, Smart Liberia, Nobel, ICampus, More Than Me and Accountability Lab.Before the presentations, a brief discussion about the academy was held, with a few staff and student-athletes serving as panelists.Sekou Manubah, Co-founder and director for football at the academy, pledged the academy’s commitment to partnering with more companies and organizations, to provide opportunities for their student-athletes.He spoke of being motivated by the desire to give back to society, to help underprivileged kids become better future leaders.Blessing Kieh, a female student-athlete at the academy, also spoke of how different the MFA is from her previous institution, where she did not have the opportunity to learn leadership, individual accountability, and other basic life skills training.Student-athlete Kieh expressed satisfaction for playing among male athletes, in spite of being a female. “It doesn’t matter whether I am a female or not,” she said.MFA is the first school to combine football with quality education in the country. Established in 2015, the academy currently has 68 student-athletes with an ultimate mission to reach 90 by September, and a maximum capacity of 160 students from across the country.Meanwhile, the academy’s female team is today expected to play a female all-star team of More Than Me from England, UK, at the Blue Field in a friendly encounter.
