4 detained in relation to carjacking ring

first_imgFour persons were arrested on Wednesday as A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara) Police ranks continue their investigation into the carjacking ring.Reports are the four persons were detained during an intelligence-led operation by ranks of the A Division in which two vehicles were also intercepted. According to information received, the vehicles’ chassis numbers appeared to have been tampered with.Additionally, the drivers alleged they were given the vehicles to operate by a close relative of a suspect and another who is on remand.The suspect, who is currently being sought by Police, is believed to be the “mastermind of the carjacking ring”, while the other who is on remand has been charged with five counts of receiving stolen property and three counts of limitation of identification mark.Earlier last month, ranks attached to the A Division, acting on information received, swooped down on a property at Monument Hill, Kuru Kuru Linden/Soesdyke Highway and conducted a search in which several vehicles and auto parts were found. The vehicles were suspected to be stolen and were lodged at the Timehri Police Station. An ex-Policeman, Jason Harry was later apprehended in relation to this incident.Meanwhile, in Vryheids Lust, a couple was arrested after ranks of the Major Crimes Unit unearthed a quantity of number engraved car mirrors, doors, lights, wipers and other vehicle parts.During the Force’s lookout for the suspected mastermind of the carjacking ring, discoveries of were also made at Lodge Housing Scheme, where a black Mazda Axela motor car with licence number PTT 2794 was found.In addition, 12 registration certificates were unearthed in which a 52-year-old woman was taken into custody after her name appeared on two of the registration certificates of the seized vehicles.In respect to these cases, at least 15 persons were taken into custody, including a father and son duo, Nigel and Ricky Chung, who were charged for allegedly welding false chassis numbers onto an Allion and Spacio motorcar. Shawn Archibald and Timothy Waldron, both of Unity Place, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, were also accused of carjacking and robbery.last_img
